WOMEN AND TULIP LOVE PILLOWCASES

WOMEN AND TULIP LOVE PILLOWCASES

from $65.00

In February I submitted six pillowcase patterns to the Rijksstudio Award 2020, a biennial art and design competition. The Rijksmuseum invites everyone to create using their vast collection of public domain images. For my entry Everybody Sleeps, I combined elements from over thirty-six different art works to create six new patterns. Each pillowcase is a reflection of the online search experience and how the disparate images interact to arrive at new visually poetic compositions and narratives through image associations.

WOMEN AND TULIP LOVE

The warm and welcoming 1663 home interior by Pieter de Hooch opens to the expanse of an 18th Century bobbin lace cover which hold two bouquets of “true love” Dutch tulips. One jug is patterned with blue birds and vines. The approximately 5,000 year old Ban Chiang funerary urn holds the family love of the golden stripe tulips.
