KITCHEN NEIGHBORS PILLOWCASES

KITCHEN NEIGHBORS PILLOWCASES

from $65.00

My mom’s Seattle kitchen looks towards her neighbor’s hedge of early blooming pink camellias and cooking steamed windows. Around the holidays and again at Easter, she and her neighbor exchange potted amaryllises and “bakery.“ The KITCHEN NEiGHBORS pillowcase celebrates the tradition of baking family recipes and marking holiday times together, in the light of flowers.

The inner flap of this pillowcase includes an annotated recipe of my grandma’s Hungarian Nut Rolls. Recreating a taste from a memory from a handed down version of a recipe takes time. I have tried this recipe many times. Each batch is a little different. One time the dough rose like a jelly doughnut. Recently, my nut rolls were more like mini baseball bats! I am still trying to recreate the taste of my Cleveland Grandma’s 1976 nut rolls. That year she visited us in Seattle and I baked with her.

Before I fall asleep at night, I imagine a morning cup of coffee.

In that light, I look to new flowers and morning coffee with family bakery.
